Contributing to the altar project is intended to help you to see the influence of the High Ones in your daily life.  Whether you are using the project experience to connect to deities you wish to know better, strengthen existing divine bonds, work through a problem or issue in your life, or to help you explore the Northern Faiths and find divinity inside your day to day life, the things you will need to successfully complete an Altar Project are focus and structure.  The very nature of this project is intended to be a personal exploration process, so please do not feel that you need to abide by rules other than your own.  The experience will be what you make of it.
It may help you to do some sort of daily meditation, prayer, or ritual to your chosen deity.  These can be rather informal and personal in nature.  Take deep breaths, use visualization, and be open to divine influence.  You may wish to do this during quiet time or add ambiance to your working as it suits you.

Items collected for the altar can be owned, given, found, or purchased at nominal expense.  Its not reccommended that you use family heirlooms or things you do not wish to lose or have taken away.   The idea is to approach your project with a continued state of mindfulness, both of your purpose and of your surroundings.  Its okay to ask for things from people around you.

Our weblog is another helpful place to connect with others experiencing the Altar Project process.  Please treat it as a resource.  This is a collective project in nature, so please email experiences and concerns to the curator at the above email address and feel free to suggest ideas and improvements to the Altar Project experience.

Reviewing the lore on your chosen deity is always a good idea in order to get a better feel for them, their likes, dislikes, and personalities in order to connect better.  These are some public domain sources for some of the major works.
